Description

The Secessionist Movement started in Vienna in the 1890s. Led at the beginning by Gustav Klimt, it was a reaction against the conservativism of the artistic institutions in Vienna. It is often referred to as the Austrian version of the German ‘Jugendstil’, the German term for Art Nouveau.

This important 18ct gold and abalone brooch set with four amethysts, is from a private collection of Arts and Crafts jewellery and is in excellent condition. The brooch is stamped at the side of the pin and comes in a lovely old box (not the original). 3.5cms long
